Prime ministers of Pakistan and Bangladesh confirm intent to strengthen cooperation — Anadolu Agency

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in New York, United States, and stated his intention to deepen bilateral relations. The talks took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

As Anadolu Agency reports, this was the first meeting between the two heads of government. According to the Pakistani prime minister’s office, the sides discussed bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics of ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Cooperation in trade and education

Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further developing mutually beneficial relations with Bangladesh. Tarique Rahman, for his part, stated his government’s interest in strengthening ties with Pakistan.

The prime ministers confirmed their intention to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people contacts.

Coordination at the UN

During the meeting, Sharif congratulated Bangladesh on its presidency of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and expressed support for its efforts to advance the goals of the United Nations.

The heads of government also exchanged views on regional and global developments and stressed the importance of continued coordination at multilateral platforms, including the UN. The state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency reported that the sides discussed issues of mutual interest, the regional and international situation, and possible areas of cooperation for the benefit of the people of both countries.
