Italian Prime Minister Meloni told G7 leaders that she had quit smoking
During an informal conversation on the sidelines of the G7 summit, which is taking place in the French city of Évian-les-Bains, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni shared a personal achievement with her colleagues, admitting that she had completely quit smoking as of May 1.
The informal conversation began when the Italian prime minister expressed a desire to have some coffee, to which German Chancellor Friedrich Merz jokingly asked if she wanted a cigarette. Upon receiving a negative response, the leaders present—including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen—greeted the news with cheers and applause.

Later, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the newly elected President of the European Council, António Costa, joined the conversation. Costa noted that he himself had successfully kicked the habit twenty-one years ago.
