The prime ministers of Italy and Denmark called on the EU to step up its efforts to combat illegal migration
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen issued a joint statement, calling on the European Union to take decisive measures against uncontrolled migration and to step up the deportation of foreign nationals who have committed serious crimes.
In their statement, the heads of government emphasized the negative impact of illegal immigration on society, particularly the rise in crime rates and the strain on public services. They stressed that those arriving in Europe are obligated to respect not only local laws but also European values and the Christian cultural heritage, without attempting to impose their own ways of life.
The leaders’ statement was issued amid tensions between Italy and Spain over the suspension of the Schengen Agreement between them following an influx of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
