Lebanese President Aoun accuses Israel of undermining agreements
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accused Israel of undermining the US-mediated ceasefire arrangements following a series of strikes in the country’s south. According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, at least 12 people were killed in the attacks.
As The National reports, Aoun made the statement during a meeting with French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin. The Lebanese president condemned the repeated attacks, the deaths of civilians, including women and children, the destruction and burning of homes, as well as the destruction of property.
According to Aoun, these actions are directed against the framework agreement and undermine efforts to de-escalate tensions in southern Lebanon and the region as a whole.
Victims of strikes in the Nabatieh area
In the city of Kfar Roummane, a three-story residential building was struck. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported eight deaths, including two newborns. In the morning, rescuers continued retrieving bodies from under the rubble following overnight strikes on the area.
At least one medic was killed in a separate attack on a car in Kfar Roummane. Another three people, according to the ministry, were killed by an Israeli drone strike on a parking lot in Nabatieh al-Tahta.

The building of Gandour Hospital in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, which has not operated since 2024, was also destroyed. The Israeli military said that a Hezbollah command-and-control center had allegedly operated in the building, which had previously been a hospital. This claim could not be independently verified.
Operation near the Ali al-Taher ridge
The escalation occurred amid intensified Israeli operations after control was established over the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge, which overlooks Nabatieh and adjacent areas. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that the capture of the high ground completed the isolation of the security zone in southern Lebanon.
According to him, Israeli forces advanced to Ali al-Taher after receiving intelligence about Hezbollah command-and-control tunnels. The Israeli military said it had operated for several weeks in an extensive network of tunnels beneath the ridge and later announced that it had established operational control over it.
The framework agreement signed by Israel and Lebanon on June 26 provides for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from designated areas in exchange for Hezbollah’s disarmament and the transfer of control to the Lebanese army. At the same time, Israeli forces continued advancing in southern Lebanon, while negotiations on implementing the agreement proceeded slowly.
