Seychelles President joins Africa digital forum in New York — MyJoyOnline

President of the Republic of Seychelles Patrick Herminie took part in the Forward Africa Leaders Symposium Global Conversations 2026 forum in New York, United States, dedicated to the future of Africa’s digital economy. The event was held at the Harvard Club during the United Nations General Assembly week in partnership with the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), MyJoyOnline reports.

Digital transformation and investment

Participants discussed how governance, technology, investment and regional cooperation can accelerate the continent’s digital transformation. Patrick Herminie stressed the need to ensure that all citizens have access to technology, connectivity and opportunities so that digital change has a tangible social impact.

Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre, Chief Executive Officer of the APRM Continental Secretariat, stated that governance mechanisms need to be strengthened for the deployment of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. According to her, innovation should promote sustainable development, job creation and the development of African digital value chains.

The forum was also attended by African Union Commission Deputy Chairperson Selma Malika Haddadi, African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy Lerato Dorothy Mataboge, African Development Bank Senior Vice President Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade, as well as representatives of banks, financial institutions and businesses.

Among the four key areas of discussion were creating investment-attractive digital ecosystems, expanding market access and regional integration, economic opportunities and digital jobs in response to migration, and financing strategic infrastructure. The symposium is expected to help shape a future APRM study on the diffusion, adoption and innovation of technology in Africa, being prepared jointly with the African Union Commission’s Department of Infrastructure and Energy.
