President Trump calls Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif a terrific man — Dawn

In New York, United States, President Donald Trump, during a speech at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, called Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif a “terrific man.” He also repeated his claim about his role in ending the military escalation between Pakistan and India in May 2025.

As Dawn reports, Trump said that since the start of his presidential term, he has helped settle eight wars. According to him, this was facilitated by his relationships with state leaders, as well as the use of tariffs.

The US president included the confrontation between Pakistan and India among the conflicts in whose settlement, he claims, he played a role. Among others, he mentioned Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the conflict in Gaza.

In his speech, Trump also said that the war with Iran had prevented Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He said that he could “destroy the Islamic Republic” if an agreement to end the conflict is not reached.

The US president expressed expectations that a peace agreement with Iran could be concluded after the US midterm elections on November 3. He called on other countries to economically isolate Iran in order to push it toward negotiations. Iran consistently denies seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
