President Trump asked Grok about capturing Maduro — TechCrunch

US President Donald Trump, during a secret meeting with Elon Musk in December 2025, spent several hours talking with the Grok chatbot and, in particular, asked about Venezuelans’ likely reaction to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. TechCrunch reports this, citing Time magazine.

The chatbot’s response

According to a Time source, Grok told Trump that Maduro was a deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. In September 2025, Trump began ordering US military strikes on Venezuelan boats that, he claimed, were linked to drug trafficking.

As TechCrunch writes, celebrations did indeed take place after the US invasion of Venezuela on January 3 and the capture of Maduro. The Time source claims that Trump considered Grok brilliant after that.

Military use of Grok

In June 2026, the head of the Pentagon’s artificial intelligence division said that the US military had used a government version of Grok to deploy forces and strike targets during the war with Iran. Grok is not the only artificial intelligence model with which the US Department of Defense works: OpenAI also has a contract with the department, while Anthropic has publicly discussed the permissible limits of using its models in military intelligence and modern warfare.

Earlier that week, the Pentagon also announced that Musk and Anduril founder Palmer Luckey would jointly lead research into the use of advanced technologies on the battlefield.
