President Trump holds talks with UK Prime Minister Burnham — Euronews
US President Donald Trump met with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham in New York, United States, on September 22, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Following the talks, the leaders made brief statements and answered journalists’ questions.
As Euronews reports, Trump said he considers Burnham an excellent prime minister and that the United States would support him. The US president also answered positively when asked whether he would be able to do business with him, calling the British prime minister a natural-born businessman.
Topics of the talks
Burnham said that he and Trump had developed a good connection. According to him, the sides discussed Ukraine, the Falkland Islands and trade issues during the meeting. Trump told journalists that he and Burnham had spoken by phone on several occasions before their in-person meeting.

Migration and the Chagos Islands
The leaders also touched on migration. Burnham acknowledged that it is becoming increasingly important in British politics and noted that the United Kingdom continues to counter the arrival of boats carrying migrants from continental Europe. According to him, the number of such crossings in summer was about 50% lower than six years ago.
Trump said that US relations with the United Kingdom under Burnham are now at a better level. He also criticized the agreement of the government of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the Chagos Islands. The proposed deal provides for transferring sovereignty over the islands, which include the British-American military base Diego Garcia, to Mauritius.
