Prince William to unveil suicide prevention initiative in UK sport
Prince William will unveil an initiative to prevent suicide in the sporting community on September 10 at the stadium of Everton Football Club in the United Kingdom. The event has been timed to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day, Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters.
Launch participants
The heir to the British throne will be joined by Olympic champions Kelly Holmes, Jason Kenny and Laura Kenny, as well as former England international footballer Jill Scott. Mental health and suicide prevention are among the key areas of William's public work.
The initiative, called On Your Side, was created by The Royal Foundation, the charity of William and his wife Kate. It is intended to help people in the sporting community recognise warning signs and provide support before a crisis occurs.

Recommendations for the sports sector
According to Kensington Palace, the set of recommendations was developed jointly with the mental health charity Chasing the Stigma. It will be available for use by local clubs and top-level sports organisations. The recommendations are intended for athletes, coaches, staff, volunteers, families and fans.
A short film on suicide prevention featuring England footballer Harry Kane and Formula 1 driver George Russell was also prepared for the launch. The Football Association, the Premier League and British Cycling are expected to announce commitments to implement the recommendations in their policies and practices. A national suicide prevention network was launched in 2025 with the support of The Royal Foundation, which provided £1 million.
