SCO RATS Council in Islamabad condemns US strikes against Iran

The Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, at a meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan, condemned new US military strikes against Iran. As Anadolu Agency reports, the council also reaffirmed the SCO's previously stated position regarding military actions against the Islamic Republic.

Meeting in Islamabad

The position was announced on September 15 during the 46th meeting of the SCO RATS Council, held under Pakistan's chairmanship. According to Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was attended by delegations from Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the SCO RATS Executive Committee.

Participants discussed current issues on the international agenda in the field of ensuring regional security.

Position on Iran

The SCO RATS Council expressed condolences to the government and people of Iran over the death of the country's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, as well as to the families of those killed. It reaffirmed its position on preserving Iran's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and supported efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions, establishing peace and ensuring stability in the region.

The chairmanship of the SCO RATS Council passed from Pakistan to Russia. Earlier this month, the United States carried out new strikes on Iranian military targets, after which Iran conducted missile and drone attacks on US-linked facilities in the region.
