The UN Security Council will discuss Russian aggression on August 24
On August 24, the UN Security Council will hold a meeting on the consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine on Ukraine’s Independence Day. The meeting was initiated by Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom.
Five European members of the Security Council—Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom—initiated the discussion on this issue.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, whose country holds the Security Council presidency in August, is expected to chair the meeting.
The UN Deputy Secretaries-General for Political and Humanitarian Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo and Tom Fletcher, will deliver briefings.
The meeting will begin at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time (10:00 p.m. Kyiv time).

Following a request from Kyiv, Moldova has halved the transit fee for Ukrainian cargo.
Ukraine is considering the possibility of transporting grain by rail through Moldova to the Romanian port of Constanta as a safer alternative to maritime exports. Kyiv has already appealed to Chisinau to establish a reduced tariff for such shipments.
As a reminder, grain exports from Ukraine could drop by more than half.
