Spokesperson for Ghana’s education minister says President Mahama supports Iddrisu
In Ghana, Hashmin Mohammed, spokesperson for Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, said that President John Mahama supports the minister in resolving problems in the education sector. He rejected claims by former Manhyia North MP Collins Owusu Amankwah that the head of state had left Iddrisu alone with the difficulties.
As MyJoyOnline reports, Mohammed described such statements as factually false, politically expedient and unsupported by evidence. According to him, problems related to the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System do not indicate neglect by the president.
Reform of the placement system
The spokesperson noted that the CSSPS student placement system continues to operate and is being reformed to address longstanding shortcomings and improve interactions among students, parents and schools. According to him, the Ministry of Education inherited a system that required significant changes and decided to focus on implementing them.

Among the measures introduced, Mohammed named the decentralisation of centres that handle issues related to student placement. He said this should bring assistance closer to parents and students and reduce difficulties in resolving such requests.
Declared government support
According to the spokesperson, President Mahama’s support is reflected in government policy, resource allocation and education transformation initiatives. The government is simultaneously working to overcome infrastructure shortages, expand school capacity and improve access to learning materials.
Mohammed also said that the goal is to ensure a sufficient number of places in Category A and B schools so that children in Ghana do not lose access to quality secondary education because of infrastructure shortages or limited capacity at educational institutions.
