Russia is preparing to supply Iran with drones, medical supplies, and food — FT
Russia is nearing the completion of its phased deliveries of drones, medical supplies, and food to Iran.
This is reported by the Financial Times.
According to two sources familiar with intelligence matters, high-ranking officials in Moscow and Tehran began secret negotiations on drone deliveries just a few days after the Israeli and U.S. attacks on the Iranian capital. Processing of the relevant requests began in early March and was expected to be completed by the end of the month.
One Western security official noted that the exact type of drones has not yet been determined. At the same time, he said, Russia could supply models such as the “Geran-2,” which is based on the Iranian “Shahed-136.”
Additionally, sources report that Moscow is providing Tehran with comprehensive support, including satellite imagery, intelligence data, and targeting information.
The Financial Times emphasizes that potential arms deliveries could be the first confirmation of Russia’s willingness to provide Iran with “lethal support” since the start of the war.
According to a senior Western official, Moscow is acting not only to bolster Iran’s military capabilities but also to support the political stability of the Iranian regime.
As a reminder, the Iranian leadership rejected the U.S. proposal for a “framework” of a potential agreement to end the war.
Yesterday, March 25, Iran launched a missile attack on a major power plant in Israel, but no damage was caused to infrastructure or people.
