Russia summoned the Luxembourg ambassador over the exhumation of Andriy Melnyk

The Russian Foreign Ministry lodged a protest with the Luxembourg ambassador. The reason was the exhumation ceremony for the remains of OUN leader Andriy Melnyk and his wife Sofia, which drew a reaction from the Russian side.

This is stated in a press release from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to the statement, the ambassador was told of a “strong protest,” as such an event could not have taken place without the consent of the relevant authorities in Luxembourg.

“Under the guise of returning national ‘heroes’ to Ukraine, the remains of a Nazi collaborator and war criminal responsible for the mass murder of civilians on ethnic grounds were transported,” the Russian Foreign Ministry fumes.

“The Russian side views such actions by the Luxembourg authorities as a disregard for the historical memory of millions of victims of World War II and as complicity in the glorification of Nazis and their accomplices,” stated Sergey Lavrov’s ministry.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also took the opportunity to rebuke the Luxembourg ambassador for his country’s support of Ukraine.

As a reminder, the remains of OUN leader Andriy Melnyk are being returned to Ukraine
