Poverty risk levels across European countries in 2024
In 2024, about a quarter of the population in some European countries falls under poverty risk criteria. This includes individuals with incomes below 60% of the national median, those suffering from material deprivation (unable to afford unexpected expenses, warmth, or internet), or living in households with very low work intensity (adults worked less than 20% of eligible months last year).
According to Eurostat data, the lowest poverty risk rate is in the Czech Republic (11.3%), while the highest is in Bulgaria (30.3%) and Turkey (30.4%). Other countries such as Italy (23.1%) and Romania (27.9%) also report high figures. These statistics help assess the socio-economic conditions across Europe and serve as a basis for shaping social protection policies.
Going forward, tracking these indicators will improve understanding of poverty trends and the effectiveness of government support programs.
