Russia and China Are Jointly Preparing for a World War with the West – Der Spiegel
Russia and China are deepening their military cooperation against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and are jointly developing methods to counter Western military infrastructure, in particular the Starlink satellite communication system.
According to leaked internal documents, a closed-door meeting of the Russian-Chinese Military Technology Forum took place in Yekaterinburg on December 10, 2024, attended by approximately 80 high-ranking officials, military personnel, and representatives of the defense industries of both countries.
During this meeting and subsequent consultations, experts from both countries analyzed ways to disrupt the Starlink system, which is critically important to the Ukrainian military. In addition, since 2023, the parties have been negotiating the creation of joint next-generation missile and air defense systems. Investigative materials and data from European intelligence agencies also indicate that the Russian military is being trained to operate Chinese UAVs, which completely refutes Beijing’s claims of neutrality in the war.
A clear division of roles has emerged within this partnership: Russia shares practical combat experience gained during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, while China provides modern electronics, semiconductors, and manufacturing capacity for joint projects. Such cooperation significantly alters the security landscape not only for Ukraine but also for NATO countries, increasingly linking the European and Asian theaters of potential conflict.
This is reported by the German publication Der Spiegel based on the results of a months-long investigation conducted jointly with partners.
