Russia is buying jet fuel from South Korea and Egypt due to attacks on oil refineries
Regular strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on Russian oil refineries have led to a significant reduction in jet fuel production in Russia. As a result, Russia has been forced to begin purchasing jet fuel from South Korea and Egypt.
“To meet the needs of military and civil aviation, Russia—which for decades has positioned itself as an energy superpower— has officially imposed a temporary ban on the export of its own aviation fuel and is forced to seek ways to import foreign Jet A-1 aviation fuel,” the Main Intelligence Directorate noted.
Jet A-1 fuel is analogous to the Russian-Soviet aviation fuel for gas turbine aircraft engines—TS-1 and RT — and is suitable for use by Russian aircraft currently in service with the aggressor country’s armed forces: the MiG-29, Su-34 (NVO), Su-35S, Su-30SM, Su-57, Su-24M, and Tu-95MS (MSM).
Jet A-1 fuel can also be used to refuel the “Geran-4” and “Geran-5” jet-powered strike UAVs equipped with Telefly TJ2000A (TF-TJ2000A) or their Russian copies, the TRD-2000.
The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has determined that three tankers from the Russian shadow fleet have already delivered 70,000 metric tons of Jet A-1 fuel from South Korea and Egypt to the Russian ports of St. Petersburg and Vladivostok.
The strategic cargo was delivered at the request of the Russian oil and gas holding company JSC “Independent Oil and Gas Company,” which supplies fuel to “TZK-AERO” in the billions. “TZK-AERO,” for its part, supplies the armed forces, the FSB, and other military units of the Russian Federation under government contracts.
Caliph Energy Trading FZE from the UAE was engaged to supply Korean aviation fuel to Russia, while the Middle East Oil Refinery, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and the trading company Vernal Overseas FZE from the UAE were involved in supplying Egyptian fuel.
