The Rostov Region of the Russian Federation has declared a state of emergency due to problems with its ports
A state of emergency has been declared in Russia’s Rostov Region due to serious problems with port operations and shipping in the Azov-Black Sea basin. Due to the near-complete halt in transportation in the region, large volumes of grain and other agricultural products have begun to accumulate.
Authorities in Russia’s Rostov Region have declared a regional-level state of emergency. It took effect at 6:00 p.m. on August 28. The measures were prompted by restrictions on port operations and shipping problems in the Azov-Black Sea basin.
The Rostov Oblast government announced the introduction of the state of emergency. According to local authorities, a significant portion of shipments through the region’s ports has effectively come to a halt. This is happening against the backdrop of attacks on bulk carriers and damage to port terminals.
As a result, the southern transport route has nearly ceased to function normally. Agricultural producers have already felt the consequences. Due to problems with shipping the harvest, they have begun to accumulate significant volumes of grain. A statement from Russian authorities notes that the near-total suspension of shipments through southern ports has led to a backlog of agricultural products at producers’ facilities.
Gasoline production in Russia at the end of August fell to approximately 70% of domestic consumption levels. This was caused by the shutdowns of major oil refineries following drone attacks, which led to renewed fuel shortages in Russian regions.
