Romania scrambled F-16s due to a target near the border with Ukraine

In Romania, on the morning of August 30, an air raid alert was issued in part of Tulcea County due to an unidentified aerial target near the border with Ukraine. To monitor the situation, the Romanian military scrambled two F-16 fighter jets.

 

On the morning of Sunday, August 30, the Romanian military detected an aerial target near the border with Ukraine. According to the agency, radar systems detected the target at 10:36 a.m. It was located approximately 20 kilometers east of the Ukrainian city of Vylkove. After detecting the target, the Romanian military scrambled two F-16 fighter jets. Their mission was to monitor the air situation and track the movements of the unidentified object.

However, the Romanian Ministry of Defense has not yet disclosed the nature of the target. After receiving information from the National Military Command Center, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations issued a warning at 10:50 a.m. to residents of the northeastern part of Tulcea County.

People were warned of a possible danger related to the air situation near the border. However, Romanian authorities have not yet reported a violation of the country’s airspace. In other words, there is currently no confirmation that the detected target crossed the Romanian border. The incident occurred amid regular Russian attacks on Ukrainian territories near the Romanian border. Due to such strikes, Romania has repeatedly stepped up its airspace surveillance and scrambled fighter jets.

The Romanian military is paying particular attention to the Danube Delta region. It is located directly adjacent to Ukrainian territory, where Russia regularly attacks ports and other facilities. Currently, the Romanian military continues to monitor the situation. There have been no reports of debris falling or casualties on Romanian territory. Thus, this time, F-16 fighter jets were scrambled in response to an aerial target detected near the Ukrainian border. At the same time, there is currently no confirmation that it entered Romanian airspace. This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of National Defense.

On the evening of August 27, a merchant ship caught fire and subsequently sank off the Romanian coast in the Black Sea. Romanian President Nicușor Dan stated that the ship may have been the victim of an attack.
