Six islands in the Persian Gulf could change the course of the war — Axios

The U.S. is considering the seizure of strategic islands in the Persian Gulf as one option for applying military pressure on Iran.

This is reported by Axios.

Specifically, this refers to Kharg Island, which accounts for about 90% of Iran’s oil exports. Options under consideration include strikes on infrastructure, a blockade, or even the seizure and occupation of the territory.

Attention is also being paid to Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for control over sea lanes, as well as the disputed islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb, where Iranian military facilities are located.

Kish Island—the largest in the Persian Gulf—is mentioned separately; according to media reports, it houses missiles, mines, and drones.

At the same time, as the publication notes, there are currently no signs of preparations for such an operation, and such a scenario is considered significantly riskier than previous U.S. actions in the region.

As a reminder, Trump stated that the U.S. does not need the Strait of Hormuz.

The countries are also ready to take action in the Strait of Hormuz, but only after a ceasefire.
