Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana criticizes UK sanctions against settlements
In Israel, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana criticized British sanctions against Israeli settlements in the West Bank. In an interview with radio station 103FM, he said that such restrictions would not prevent Israel from acting for the security of its citizens, the Jerusalem Post reports.
Statement on sanctions
Ohana, who represents the Likud party, said that Israel would continue to fight for the security and protection of its citizens despite condemnation, including harsh condemnation, from some countries.
According to him, Israel's closest ally is the United States, not the United Kingdom. He also mentioned a saying by former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir that condemnation is better than sympathy.

Attitude toward violence
Responding to a question about whether his words could justify violence by Jews in the West Bank, Ohana rejected that suggestion. He said that he condemns a small group of people who, according to him, do not represent the settlement movement.
Ohana also claimed that British sanctions are aimed not only at people who commit violence, but also at the settlement movement and goods from settlements.
