Speakers of the Baltic parliaments reaffirmed their support for Ukraine in Tallinn

Lauri Hussar, Speaker of the Riigikogu—the Estonian Parliament— Daiga Mierina, Speaker of the Latvian Seimas, and Juozas Olekas, Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, issued a joint statement in Tallinn on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Estonia’s restoration of independence. In it, they reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine, according to LSM English.

The leaders of the parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania declared that they do not recognize any seizures of Ukrainian territories carried out by Russia as a result of its war of aggression. They also emphasized that they would focus on providing political, economic, financial, and military support to Ukraine.

The statement outlines their intention to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia—the aggressor state—and to impose new restrictions on its war economy. The speakers also called for finding ways to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.

Representatives of the three Baltic states emphasized the importance of holding Russia accountable for the crime of aggression, war crimes, and systematic violations of international law. They stressed the need to cooperate with partners to counter Russia’s attempts to gain international legitimacy for its war, in particular by preventing the normalization of its participation in international sporting and cultural events.

The parties also reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s full-fledged accession to the European Union and its path to NATO. They stated the need for active cooperation to strengthen the eastern borders of the EU and NATO, counter disinformation campaigns, and address organized migration pressure at the EU’s external border. According to the speakers, the next Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine will take place in Tallinn in January 2027.
