US prepares sweeping sanctions against ICC — Anadolu Agency
In the United States, President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing sweeping economic sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC), which could prohibit most financial and commercial transactions with the court. Anadolu Agency reports, citing The Wall Street Journal.
Restrictions for the entire court
According to The Wall Street Journal, the restrictions are planned to be introduced after a transition period lasting six to seven months. The planned measures would mean a shift from sanctions against individual court employees to broad restrictions on the entire organization.
Newspaper sources said Washington could finalize the executive measures as early as this week during the UN General Assembly session or shortly afterward.

Previous sanctions
The United States has already imposed sanctions on a number of ICC employees, including the court’s president, Tomoko Akane. This happened under an executive order issued in February 2025, which declared a national emergency over the court’s proceedings.
The US campaign against the ICC continues after the court issued arrest warrants in 2024 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over allegations of possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. A US State Department spokesperson declined to preview possible sanctions decisions.
