Stubb called Ukraine the main guarantor of Europe's security

Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that Ukraine is the best guarantee of security for Europe in the confrontation with Russia. He also believes that Ukraine is now in a better position than at any time during the full-scale war and is capable of winning.

During the conversation, the Finnish president emphasized that Ukraine currently holds the advantage in several key areas—military, political, and financial. “Militarily, politically, and financially. Ukraine has the upper hand, and it will win this war,” Stubb said.

He explained that for Ukraine, victory means, first and foremost, preserving the state and its independence. “If you survive, if you remain independent, if you remain a sovereign state—then that is victory,” said the Finnish president.

Stubb also linked support for Ukraine to the security of European countries themselves. According to him, by helping Ukrainians resist Russian aggression, Europe is simultaneously protecting its own interests. “We must understand—you in Germany and we in Finland—that Ukraine is the best security guarantee we have against Russia,” he emphasized.

In Stubb’s view, a Ukrainian defeat would pose significantly greater risks to other European nations. “If Ukraine loses, we lose too,” the Finnish president concluded. Stubb has repeatedly advocated for continued military and political support for Ukraine. Finland, which shares a border of over 1,300 kilometers with Russia, has strengthened its own defenses since the start of the full-scale invasion and actively supports Ukraine.

The Finnish president’s statement came amid discussions in Europe about future support for Ukraine and possible scenarios for ending the war. Stubb effectively links the security of European countries to whether Ukraine can preserve its independence and resist Russian aggression.

At the same time, his remarks about Ukraine’s advantage and its future victory represent the Finnish president’s political assessment. The final outcome of the war will depend on the further course of hostilities, the support Ukraine receives from its partners, and the decisions made by both sides. Alexander Stubb made these remarks in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that he does not believe Russia—an aggressor state—would dare to attack a NATO country. He made these remarks in an interview with the German newspaper Bild, according to YLE News.
