A Florida court has ordered Trump to produce financial documents in the case against the BBC
A Florida court has ruled that U.S. President Donald Trump must provide the financial documents requested by the BBC as part of a $10 billion defamation lawsuit. Judge Enjolick Lette issued the ruling during the first hearing in the case. However, the ruling is still subject to appeal.
Trump’s lawsuit concerns an episode of the program “Panorama.” The U.S. president claims that edited clips of his speech on January 6, 2021, created a false impression of his role in the events surrounding the storming of the Capitol.
The court granted the BBC’s motion to unseal financial documents held by the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust—a trust established by Trump to manage his assets during his presidency.
In addition, the court issued a separate ruling on the BBC’s request for documents directly related to the Capitol riots.
The case is currently in the discovery phase. According to the BBC’s attorneys, the broadcaster has already submitted more than 87,000 pages of materials, while Trump’s side has provided only 735 pages. Representatives of the broadcaster stated that most of these documents consist of news articles and materials from open sources.
