Authorities in Tianjin, China, have unveiled a comprehensive environmental protection program for 2026–2030, covering areas from the mountains in the north to coastal waters. By the end of 2030, the city plans to increase the combined share of water and green areas to 67%, ECNS reports.

Targets for 2030

Liu Jie, deputy director of the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, said the city must also raise forest cover in key control zones to 29%. These targets were set for Tianjin’s 15th Five-Year Plan for 2026–2030.

As part of its regional integration strategy, Tianjin will cooperate with Beijing on joint ecosystem restoration projects. They will extend from the southern part of the Yanshan Mountains to the coast of Bohai Bay. Government agencies are also completing the reorganization of Tianjin’s protected areas into a unified system of nature reserves and parks.

Bird protection and threat monitoring

To protect local fauna, Tianjin is creating a migratory bird protection network together with Beijing and Hebei Province. The initiative provides for combating the illegal capture and trade of birds, as well as restoring key stopover sites along their migration routes.

In addition, officials announced the “Transparent Tianjin” platform, a geological big data system for identifying and eliminating geological risks. The city is also deploying an integrated “air—space—coast—sea” network for the early detection of marine natural disasters and the prevention of forest fires.
