Teit Land called Yulle Madize a strong contender in the presidential race

Tiit Land, rector of Tallinn University of Technology, said he will continue to run in Estonia’s presidential race following the decision by Chancellor of Justice Julle Madise to run for the office of head of state. He called her decision a positive one and noted that it opens the door for discussions in the coming weeks, according to ERR News.

Land acknowledged Madise as a strong competitor. In his words, she is a capable and competent Chancellor of Justice. At the same time, he cited his own strengths as his work toward Estonia’s future in the fields of education, science, technology, and the development of the next generation.

Land also noted that he has led large organizations, brought diverse people together, and has international experience. He stated that he currently does not have a dedicated communications team working for him, but he does seek advice from colleagues and university rectors.

Julle Madise announced her candidacy for the presidential race on Monday morning. Last week, 62 members of the Riigikogu from the Reform Party, Eesti 200, and the Social Democratic Party supported her nomination. To be nominated, a candidate needs the support of at least one-fifth of the Riigikogu, or a minimum of 21 members, and at least 68 votes are required in the Riigikogu to be elected president.
