Trump plans to speak out about possible Chinese interference in the U.S. elections
U.S. President Donald Trump intends to announce, during a scheduled prime-time address, previously unknown information about possible Chinese interference in the U.S. election.
According to sources cited by CBS News, Trump plans to claim that Beijing compromised the data of American voters. He is also expected to accuse the Central Intelligence Agency of allegedly knowing about these actions but failing to inform him during his first term in office.
Members of the presidential cabinet, as well as the heads of the CIA, the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, are expected to attend the speech.
The White House has not confirmed the content of the upcoming speech. White House Press Secretary Carolina Levitt stated that anonymous sources are merely speculating about what Trump will say and urged people to wait for the speech itself.
The U.S. president announced the address earlier this week, noting only that it would focus on the election.
At the same time, U.S. intelligence had previously assessed the question of China’s possible role in the 2020 election. A report by the National Intelligence Council, released in early 2021, noted that the intelligence community had concluded with high confidence that China had not attempted to influence the results of the presidential election and had not interfered with election infrastructure.
At the same time, the document included a dissenting opinion from the National Intelligence Director for Cybersecurity, who, with moderate confidence, believed that Beijing had attempted to prevent Trump’s reelection by using social media and official statements.
CBS News reported this, citing sources.
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility that the war in Ukraine could end before the conclusion of his second presidential term.
