Trump Named a Possible Date for Xi Jinping's Visit to the U.S.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is looking forward to Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s official visit to the United States in late September.
During a discussion about the construction of a new ballroom at the White House, the U.S. leader noted that the potential visit by the Chinese leader is one of the main reasons for building this facility, as the event will require a large space to accommodate a large number of guests.
According to Trump, the meeting could take place on September 24, which coincides with the UN General Assembly in New York, where the U.S. president himself is scheduled to deliver a speech on September 22. Although Xi Jinping has personally attended the General Assembly only once during his entire tenure since 2012, Trump has previously expressed hope on multiple occasions that he would host his Chinese counterpart this fall, but this is the first time he has announced a specific date. The previous in-person meeting between the leaders of the two countries took place in May of this year during a summit in Beijing, according to Bloomberg.
