Trump plans a record defense budget of $1.5 trillion

U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a record defense budget of $1.5 trillion for 2027. This is nearly equal to the combined military spending of all countries in the world excluding the United States, which amounted to approximately $1.8 trillion in 2025.

This is reported by Defense Express.

Analysts note that such a level of funding could be achieved through additional budget requests. Formally, the base U.S. national security budget will be approximately $900 billion, but the administration could initiate additional funding in the range of another $400–600 billion.

This practice has been used before. Specifically, last year, an additional $150 billion was allocated on top of the approved $892.6 billion in defense spending following a separate request.

It is expected that a significant portion of the funds will be directed toward the development of new defense projects, including the “Golden Dome” system, the construction of military ships, as well as increasing weapons production and replenishing depleted stockpiles.

At the same time, experts believe that criticism of aid to Ukraine could serve as one of the tools for publicly justifying such spending.

“Therefore, we should prepare for a barrage of accusations against Ukraine in the near future. And, of course, they will mention the mythical $350 billion allegedly provided. Although the official figures for all the years of repelling Russia’s full-scale invasion amount to $67 billion for weapons and another $31.5 billion as direct budget support,” experts note.

The U.S. Senate plans to vote in the near future on a bill regarding defense and intelligence appropriations for fiscal year 2026, which includes funding to support Ukraine.

As a reminder, the Knesset approved Israel’s defense budget for 2026 in the amount of $45.8 billion. A significant portion of these funds will go toward military operations and equipping the army, as well as toward the rehabilitation of the wounded and support for the families of the fallen. The budget includes a ten-year plan for the development of the country’s security forces totaling $112 billion.
