Trump said he is willing to meet with Khamenei to reach a peace agreement
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he does not rule out a personal meeting with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei if it would help reach an agreement to end the war and resolve the conflict.
Speaking to reporters, the American leader emphasized that he is not seeking such a meeting, but is willing to consider it if progress is made in the negotiations.
“I don’t want to meet. But if I did meet, it would be an honor for me to meet with him. I would like to see if we can reach an agreement, but if we do reach an agreement, it is quite possible that I will meet with him. I wouldn’t mind,” Trump said.
The U.S. president also commented on rumors regarding the possibility of holding such a meeting on American soil.
“I haven’t heard much about that. I didn’t suggest it, but some people have,” the White House chief noted.
Separately, Trump emphasized that in the event of personal talks with Khamenei, he would maintain a respectful tone and a diplomatic approach.
“I would say that I am not his favorite person, but, on the other hand, he is probably a professional. In some circles, he actually has a very good reputation,” the U.S. president added.
Thus, Trump left open the possibility of direct talks with Iran’s supreme leader if this would help reach agreements to end the conflict and stabilize the situation in the Middle East.
