Trump Announced a Demand for Compensation from Iran During Peace Talks
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he will demand compensation from Iran as part of upcoming negotiations to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to Euronews, the negotiations have reached an impasse, and the new U.S. demands could complicate the rapid conclusion of an agreement.
Trump’s statement came in response to Tehran’s demand that the United States pay war reparations as a precondition for resolving the current hostilities. The U.S. president said his demands would cover not only damages from the current war but also attacks on American targets over more than two decades, which, he said, Iran had supported or carried out. He also mentioned payments to the families of Iranian protesters killed by the authorities over the past 50 years.
In a separate post, Trump stated that the Islamic Republic must be held accountable for the loss of life and damage in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Gaza. He also referred to the bombing of the U.S. destroyer USS Cole in 2000, having previously stated that Iran was likely involved in that attack.

Last week, Trump threatened to launch a “very harsh” strike against Iran, specifically targeting civilian infrastructure, but later hinted that a peace deal was imminent. This weekend, he stated that he would take a more restrained approach to the conflict and is prepared to increase economic pressure rather than launch new military strikes.
Tehran is demanding that the U.S. lift the blockade of Iranian ports and revoke sanctions against the oil industry. Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, as noted by Euronews, has caused fuel prices to rise and sparked concerns about the global economy.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei appointed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps General Ali Abdolahi as chief of staff of the country’s armed forces. Ahmad Vahidi was appointed commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and promoted to the rank of major general.
