Trump claimed that Iran had "given" him 10 tankers
During a cabinet meeting on March 26, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that, as part of the negotiations, Iran had allowed ten oil tankers to pass unimpeded through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to the American leader, the initial agreement covered eight vessels, but Tehran’s representatives later added two more as a gesture of goodwill. Trump emphasized that this step demonstrates the seriousness of Iran’s intentions to reach agreements to end the conflict.
During a conversation with Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, the president clarified the details of the “gift” received, noting that the ships, which included tankers flying the Pakistani flag, had already passed through the waterway. He linked this development to the success of the current diplomatic strategy and confirmed that Washington is negotiating with influential representatives of the Iranian leadership. Despite the positive signals, Trump cautioned that military pressure on Tehran would continue until the situation is fully resolved. Currently, the U.S. administration is awaiting further steps from the Iranian side within the framework of the proposed peace plan.
Iran has sent an official response to the United States’ proposal, which included 15 points for ending the war. Tehran’s response was conveyed to the American side through intermediaries.
As a reminder, the U.S. and Iran may hold talks on ending the war on March 26.
