Turkey has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu
A Turkish court has issued an international arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It also ordered that he be placed on Interpol’s wanted list.
According to Turkish media reports, the decision was made by the 11th High Criminal Court of Istanbul in the case involving the Israeli military’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy heading for the Gaza Strip.
In addition to Netanyahu, 34 other Israeli officials are implicated in the case. They are accused of crimes against humanity, genocide, unlawful deprivation of liberty, cruel treatment, intentional infliction of bodily harm, robbery, and unlawful seizure of vehicles.
According to media reports, the Istanbul prosecutor’s office had previously prepared an indictment seeking life imprisonment for the suspects.
It is worth noting that a Turkish court’s decision does not in itself automatically result in a person being placed on Interpol’s international wanted list. For this to happen, the relevant request must undergo a separate review and approval process by Interpol.
