The Czech Republic recorded its hottest night on record
In the Czech Republic, on the night of August 3–4, the highest nighttime temperature in the history of meteorological observations was recorded. At the Bystřice pod Hostínem station, the temperature did not drop below 27.9°C.
According to meteorologists, the new record exceeded the previous one, set in 2013, by nearly 0.7°C.
At the same time, many regions of the country experienced a so-called “tropical night,” when the air temperature does not drop below 20°C. According to forecasters, at 5:00 a.m., the temperature was around 20°C in most areas, although in some localities it dropped to 14°C. Meanwhile, in some areas, temperatures remained above 25°C throughout the night.
On Tuesday, August 4, the Czech Republic is also experiencing a severe heatwave. According to weather forecasters, daytime temperatures in most regions will reach 34–39°C.
A cold front is expected to move into the country from the west in the second half of the workweek. Along with it, forecasters predict severe thunderstorms, squalls with gusts of up to 70–100 km/h, as well as downpours and hail.

As a reminder, 16 people died in South Korea due to the intense heat this summer. More than 2,000 people suffered from heat-related illnesses between May 15 and August 2, according to the country’s Ministry of the Interior.
Due to the arrival of an abnormal heat wave, Ukraine may face a significant increase in electricity consumption as early as next week. According to forecasts, the load on the power grid could increase by approximately 1 gigawatt, creating the risk of a return to hourly power outage schedules.
The June heatwave in Europe led to significant losses in agriculture. The cost of the destroyed grain crops is estimated at more than 2 billion euros, with farmers in France and Hungary being the hardest hit.
