A state of emergency has been declared in Dagestan and Chechnya due to flooding

Leaders of the Russian-occupied regions of Dagestan and Chechnya, who are controlled by the Kremlin, have declared a state of emergency due to record-breaking floods and mudslides coming down from the mountains.

This was reported by local authorities and news outlets.

The state of emergency in Chechnya has been in effect since March 29 in Grozny and in 9 of the republic’s 15 municipal districts. According to the “Grozny 95” Telegram channel, the natural disaster caused rockfalls on federal highways, destroyed homes, damaged bridges, and restricted traffic. The storm sewer system in some areas of Grozny is either absent or unable to handle the volume of water, notes the Telegram channel NIYSO.

According to Russia’s TASS, about 750 private homes were flooded in the Gudermes district.

A state of emergency was declared in Dagestan on March 29 due to heavy rains in Makhachkala and the Khasavyurt district.

The decisions to declare a state of emergency in both republics are aimed at organizing aid for those affected, coordinating rescue services, and minimizing the consequences of the natural disaster.

As a reminder, despite a temporary lull in precipitation, the flood situation in western France will remain difficult for at least the next few days.
