The Russian State Duma has renamed the "Kyiv-style cutlet"
In the cafeteria of the Russian State Duma, a popular Kyiv-style cutlet has been renamed. At the start of the parliament’s fall session, a new price tag appeared next to the dish, reading “cutlet with butter.”
The price tag in the State Duma cafeteria indicates that the dish costs 270 rubles.
A Kremlin propagandist drew attention to the menu change, posting a photo and writing:
“A new session is beginning in the State Duma, which means your favorite column, ‘News from the Duma Cafeteria,’ is back. One of this fall’s new items is a cutlet with butter—which used to be simply a Kyiv-style cutlet,” he wrote.
According to Russian media reports, the State Duma cafeteria’s menu previously featured not only the Kyiv-style cutlet but also Kyiv-style cheese pancakes.
At the same time, instances of popular dishes being renamed in Russia have occurred before. In particular, in 2017, journalists discovered a “Crimean-style cutlet” in the cafeteria of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to them, the dish resembled the traditional Kyiv-style cutlet.
After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, similar instances were also reported in restaurants catering to ordinary Russians.
For example, in March 2022, in Kirov, the “Seli-Poeli” chain renamed the “Kyiv-style cutlet” the “Kirov-style cutlet.”
For its part, “Velyka Stolova” named this dish the “Vyatka-style cutlet.”

Russian media reported on the name change, publishing a photo of the dish.
As a reminder, a poll is currently underway in Kyiv regarding the renaming of Zelenogorskaya Street in the Solomyanskyi district in honor of Hero of Ukraine and military pilot Andriy Pilshchikov, whose call sign was “Juice.” Voting will continue until September 30.
