Man in France sentenced to six months in prison for threatening to behead his son's teacher
In the French village of Le Fauga near Toulouse, a 47-year-old man was sentenced to six months in prison for threatening to behead his son's teacher. The threat was made after the teacher disciplined the student for violating school rules.
The sentence was handed down on Thursday, less than a week after the incident. As Global News Canada reports, citing AFP and the BBC, Le Fauga is a village with a population of about 2,600 people near Toulouse.
Education minister's response
French Education Minister Édouard Geffray said that the teacher had been granted official protection and placed on leave. He described the reported circumstances of the incident as extremely serious and expressed support for the teacher, her colleagues, students and their families.

According to the minister, this case will be among the first applications of a decree published in the summer to protect education workers from threats and violence by students' parents.
Protection of education workers
The incident occurred several months after France adopted legislation aimed at protecting education workers, academic directors of national education services and academy rectors from violence and hostile attitudes by parents.
The law allows education authorities to require a student to change schools if one of the parents threatens a teacher or another staff member of the institution. Geffray also stressed that teachers should not be afraid to do their jobs and that an attack on one of them is an attack on the entire educational institution.
