CSIR to hold conference and innovation fair in Ghana in October — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will hold a scientific conference and innovation fair in October 2026. The organizers plan to bring together scientists, business representatives, investors and policymakers to help transform local research into market-ready products, new businesses and solutions for the country’s development.

The CSIR Scientific Conference will take place on October 14–15, while the innovation fair will run from October 16–18. CSIR Director-General Professor Paul Bosu announced this at a media presentation, MyJoyOnline reports.

Research for practical application

The conference will cover developments in agriculture, food security, biotechnology, construction, water resources, environmental protection and industrial development. According to Bosu, the conference will serve as a platform for creating, sharing and discussing scientific knowledge, while the fair is intended to help move toward the practical application, implementation and commercialization of research results.

The CSIR head also noted that the events are expected to strengthen ties between Ghana’s scientific institutions and production sectors. He invited the country’s residents to learn about the council’s activities and developments.

More than 300 scientific projects

CSIR Deputy Director-General Professor Marian Dorcas Quain said that more than 500 scientists across the council’s 13 institutes are working on over 300 research projects with a total value of nearly 100 million Ghanaian cedis. The areas include climate-resilient agriculture, food security, biodiversity, sustainable construction, water resources, biotechnology and public policy.

CSIR also listed among its developments cowpea varieties resistant to pod pests, materials for breeding climate-resilient rice, hydroponic systems, nanofertilizers, improved fish-smoking ovens, low-carbon concrete, improved cookstoves and briquette-production technologies.

CSIR Commercialization Director Naomi Owusu said the three-day fair, the first in this format, will be held at Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra. Its theme is the transition from research to market and CSIR’s role in developing innovations for national development.
