Chinese-South African human rights seminar held in Hangzhou
A China-South Africa seminar on human rights was held on August 27 in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Officials and experts from China, South Africa and other countries took part in the event, discussing human rights and development issues, ECNS reports.
Seminar theme
The meeting was co-organized by the China Human Rights Development Foundation and the Centre for Africa-China Studies at the University of Johannesburg. The seminar’s theme was “Shared Modernization and Human Rights Development.”
Participants considered China-Africa economic cooperation, shared development, the green transition and modern social governance. They separately discussed the role of these areas in advancing the protection of human rights.

Participants’ statements
Zhou Shuchun, executive vice chairman of the China Human Rights Development Foundation, said that China and South Africa, as countries of the Global South, should deepen practical cooperation and promote modernization to improve people’s well-being.
David Monyae, director of the Centre for Africa-China Studies at the University of Johannesburg, also called for strengthening China-Africa cooperation in technology, the green transition and digital development. He encouraged African countries to play a greater role in technological innovation. Before the seminar, participants visited industrial parks, enterprises and rural communities in Hangzhou and Jinhua.
