China’s wild Siberian tiger population rises to 72 — ECNS
China’s wild Siberian tiger population has increased from 27 individuals in 2017 to 72, ECNS reports, citing official data.

The latest data were announced on September 22 by Liu Guohong, secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of China’s Ministry of Natural Resources and chief state inspector of natural resources. He presented them at a press conference of the State Council Information Office in Beijing.
Siberian tigers in China mainly live in the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park.

Park territory
The national park is located on the border of Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces. According to the outlet, it is a stable habitat for Amur leopards and Siberian tigers, while the city of Hunchun lies within the park’s core area.
China also reported that the Hainan gibbon population has increased to 44 individuals. The report notes that populations of key animal species continue to recover in the country’s national parks.
