A plant for the production and repair of Leopard tanks will be built in Lithuania

A plant for the production, assembly, and repair of Leopard 2A8 tanks will be built in Kaunas, Lithuania. The project is estimated to cost approximately 30 million euros.

Construction will be carried out by YIT Lietuva on behalf of Lithuania Defense Services—a joint venture between the German defense companies Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, established in 2022.

Work is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and be completed by November 2027. The plant will be located in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone on a site covering nearly 10 hectares. The complex will include a main production building and auxiliary facilities.

According to company representatives, the new plant is intended to strengthen Lithuania’s defense infrastructure and ensure the operational readiness of its Armed Forces.
