Moldova Calls for Urgent Strengthening of Air Defense Following Drone Flyover
Moldova must urgently strengthen its air defense system following yet another violation of its airspace by a drone. The country’s authorities emphasize the need to bolster air defense in light of new incidents involving drones flying through its airspace.
“What is happening is an extremely serious situation. Moldovan citizens continue to be in danger, as Russia continues to violate our national airspace using aircraft that threaten the safety of the population,” Nosaty noted.
According to the minister, such incidents pose a serious danger to both citizens and aircraft flying over Moldovan territory. After a drone violated the airspace, all flights were suspended for 15 minutes.
Nosaty emphasized that these new cases of UAV incursions demonstrate the need to strengthen the National Army, particularly by equipping it with modern equipment for the effective monitoring and protection of the country’s airspace.
Since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Russian drones have illegally violated Moldova’s airspace about 70 times, according to data from the Moldovan National Army.
The statement by Moldova’s defense minister came after another drone violated the country’s airspace on Monday.
Moldova detected the drone’s flight following a nighttime Russian attack on Ukraine.
The “Tabaki” international border crossing on the border between Ukraine and Moldova has resumed operations following the Russian airstrike. Border crossing operations are once again proceeding as usual. Ukrainian border guards have informed the Moldovan side of the resumption of operations.
