Schwartz’s in Montreal replaces American black cherry drink

The renowned Schwartz’s delicatessen in Montreal, Canada, has stopped serving an American black cherry carbonated drink that had been available there for decades. The establishment has instead switched to a locally produced version of the drink.

Supply problems

As BBC News reports, Schwartz’s had faced difficulties securing supplies of the American drink over the past eight years. The distributor had been reducing its production due to rising aluminium costs.

The establishment expected disruptions, but did not anticipate that the cans of the drink would disappear permanently. Schwartz’s then replaced the American product with a locally made version.

Local alternative

Visitors to the establishment have generally reacted positively to the new black cherry drink. Schwartz’s is one of Montreal’s best-known delicatessens.

The BBC video about the drink change lasts one minute and 26 seconds and was produced by Eloise Alanna. The material was published in BBC News’ “US and Canada” news section.
