Chinese citizen rescued from Nepal hydropower tunnel after 10 days
In Nepal, rescuers pulled out alive a Chinese citizen who had been in a tunnel connected to a hydropower project on the Trishuli. This was the third successful rescue from tunnels at Trishuli hydropower facilities after the floods.
Joint rescue operation
As NDTV World reports, the operation was carried out by Nepalese military personnel together with South Korean emergency response specialists. The man was extracted from a 225-meter-long tunnel. He was flown by helicopter for a medical examination.
Two Nepalese workers were rescued the previous day from the tunnel of the Trishuli-3A hydropower plant. Overall, rescuers have found four people alive in flood-affected areas in recent days.

Consequences of the floods
In the city of Nuwakot, rescuers also saved 64-year-old Chandika Shrestha, who was found in a damaged house. According to officials, she was flown to Kathmandu by helicopter for treatment.
According to the authorities, nearly 900 workers remain missing at 12 hydropower projects in Nepal. About 500 of them may be in various tunnels, officials estimate. The floods of August 26, likely caused by a glacier collapse, claimed at least 1,300 lives. According to Nepal's emergency management agency, more than 5,000 people are still considered missing.
