Youth in Nigeria’s Enugu State hold march against terrorism
Residents and young people of Enugu State in Nigeria held a march in the state capital in support of the government’s campaign to address security challenges. Participants, including students and members of Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps, declared their rejection of terrorism, crime and violent extremism, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Meeting with the governor
After marching through the streets of Enugu city, the participants gathered at the State Government House, where they were received by Governor Peter Mbah. Youth representatives pledged to involve young people across the state in the campaign against criminal activity, cultism and terrorism.
Mbah said security was one of the risk factors his administration identified while planning the state’s development. He urged participants to spread the campaign against crime and terrorism to all parts of Enugu. According to the governor, the authorities must complement such efforts by creating jobs, investing in education and developing digital skills.

Participants’ statements
Emeka Ejim, deputy rector of the Enugu Institute of Management and Technology and one of the march’s leaders, described the association as a broad youth movement involving students and members of the National Youth Service Corps. He expressed support for the state government’s security measures.
Okeke Kelvin, head of the Enugu chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students, said the organization plans to mobilize at least two million young people in support of the campaign against violence and terror. He also praised the state’s security infrastructure, including the Command and Control Centre, the DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation Centre, and an emergency response team.
National Youth Service Corps members Olaranju Oreose and Emmanuela Momoh said that their experience in Enugu changed their previous concerns about travelling to Nigeria’s southeastern region.
