Police in Nigeria detain three suspects in child kidnapping case
Police in Nigeria’s Ogun State detained three women in Ibafo in connection with the suspected kidnapping of children and found three minors. According to preliminary law enforcement data, one of the children may have been sold for 500,000 naira.
Detentions in Ibafo
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, detectives from the Ibafo police station detained 36-year-old Kikelomo Jimoh, Kayode Elizabeth, and 60-year-old Blessing Anochike. The operation was conducted following a report of a child’s kidnapping and an intelligence-led investigation.
According to police, after her detention, Jimoh allegedly made statements during questioning that led investigators to Anochike’s residence. There, law enforcement officers found three minors aged 12, 14, and 16.
Preliminary investigation findings, according to law enforcement officers, indicate that the 14-year-old girl may have been sold for 500,000 naira. Police also said that the 16-year-old had previously left his parents, after which he was allegedly kidnapped by the detained women. The circumstances under which the 12-year-old girl ended up with the suspects are still being established.

The case was transferred to the investigations department
The three detainees remain in police custody. The case was transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, to establish all circumstances, the roles of the suspects, and possible other persons involved.
These detentions took place several days after another police investigation in Oyo, Ogun, and Delta states. In that case, Oyo State Police reported the rescue of 17 children and the detention of seven suspects after a three-year-old boy disappeared during a masquerade festival in the city of Oyo.
According to Oyo Police, the investigation uncovered a suspected network involved in the kidnapping, movement, sale, and concealment of children. Law enforcement officers also stated that six children in that case died in captivity. In Ogun State, according to their data, four children and two pregnant young women were found at the residence of one of the suspects in Mowe.
