Nigeria creates task force against fuel underfilling at petrol stations — Premium Times Nigeria
In Enugu, Nigeria, the local branch of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has created a task force to monitor compliance with approval procedures and regulatory requirements at filling stations. This was reported by Premium Times.
The decision was announced in a communiqué following an extraordinary annual general meeting of IPMAN Enugu Depot. The meeting was attended by members of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria and representatives of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Calibration of fuel dispensers
The communiqué was signed by the zonal chairman, Chinedu Anyaso, and secretary, Nnaemeka Iloafor. It urged IPMAN members to comply with requirements against fuel underfilling and rules for recording fuel dispensed.
The association said it was acting in line with the NMDPRA's call to immediately calibrate and inspect all fuel dispensing pumps and totalizer meters. According to the regulator's plan, this should ensure measurement accuracy so that customers receive the full volume of fuel they paid for.

IPMAN also said it would use internal mechanisms to monitor compliance with established measurement error limits and the timely renewal of licences.
Penalties for violations
The association recalled that a fine of 250,000 naira is предусмотрено for the first case of fuel underfilling. Repeat offenders may face the sealing of their filling stations and the withdrawal of their licences for a period of three to six months.
Stations that fail to renew their licences will also be fined and sealed. If the renewal procedure is initiated after the 90-day grace period, a late fine of 100,000 naira is imposed. The communiqué separately warned against concealing or removing seals, as well as selling fuel through a dispenser whose seal has been damaged.
