Woman detained in Nigeria in child sexual exploitation case
In Anambra State in southeastern Nigeria, police detained a 36-year-old woman who, according to law enforcement, was recorded on video engaging in sexual acts involving a minor using sex toys. Police also reported rescuing four children aged two, three, six, and nine.
Police investigation
State police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said the detention took place on September 11, 2026. According to him, law enforcement officers seized sex toys and other unspecified items that may assist the investigation.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the woman is in custody. Police are investigating a suspected child pornography case in the Onitsha area and are checking the possible involvement of other individuals. The detained woman’s husband is also being questioned to determine whether he is connected to the alleged offense.

Child protection
State Police Commissioner Nnanna Ama called the reported incident unacceptable and ordered a thorough professional investigation. According to police, the priority is the safety, dignity, and well-being of the rescued children.
Law enforcement officers said they would cooperate with child protection services and other relevant organizations to provide the children with care, protection, counseling, and other necessary assistance. Police also promised to protect their privacy. The department thanked members of local volunteer patrols, bloggers, and residents whose information, according to police, contributed to the detention.
Child sexual exploitation and child pornography are prohibited under Nigerian law. The Child Rights Act of 2003 provides for a penalty of up to 14 years in prison after conviction for sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
