Deutschlandticket in Germany to rise to €66.80 per month — The Local Germany

In Germany, the price of the nationwide Deutschlandticket travel pass will rise from €63 to €66.80 per month starting in January 2027. This will be the third price increase since the ticket was launched in May 2023, The Local Germany reports.

The Deutschlandticket allows users to use regional and local public transport throughout the country. It is currently used by around 14.5 million people.

How the price has changed

At its launch in May 2023, the monthly pass cost €49. In 2025, its price rose to €58, and since the beginning of 2026 it has been €63. The new fare will be €3.80 higher than the current one.

The increase will also affect discounted versions of the ticket. The Jobticket for employees will cost €63.46 per month, while the student Semesterticket will cost €40.08.

Funding and criticism

The federal government and the state governments each allocate €1.5 billion annually to finance the ticket and limit losses for transport operators.

The German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation, BUND, criticized the new price increase. Jens Hilgenberg, the organization’s head of transport policy, said that ongoing discussions about the ticket’s price create uncertainty for passengers. Detlef Neuß, a representative of the Pro Bahn passenger association, also opposed another increase and said that Deutschlandticket users should be given a discount in view of the reduction in fuel tax.

The new price was calculated by D-Tix using an index that takes into account personnel, energy and operating costs. The matter was then discussed by the Deutschlandticket coordination council with the participation of the federal government, the states, associations of local self-government bodies and the transport industry.
